I’ve blogged about this before and I am going to blog about this again.

1. Single –> wala ka pa bang boyfriend (or girlfriend?)
(Single -> Don’t you have a boy/girlfriend yet?)

2. may jowa (with boy/girlfriend) –> kailan ka mag-aasawa?
(with boy/girlfriend -> When are you getting married)

3. kasal na –> buntis ka na? (sabay turo sa tsan.)
(already married -> Are you pregnant already? Points to tummy)

4. buntis na sa wakas –> babae o lalaki? kelan ka manganganak? anong pangalan?
(Pregnant at last! -> Girl or boy? When are you due? Do you already have a name?)

5. buntis na malaki –> D ka pa ba nanganganak?
(Pregnant with big tummy -> You’re not due yet?!)

6. nanganak na –> kailan nyo susundan?
(Gave birth already -> When’s the next baby?)
(may go back to number 4, and the cycle goes on until you reach number 7)

*7. malalaki na ang anak -> Kailan mag-aasawa (mga) anak mo?
(Kids are all grown-up -> When are your kids getting married?)

*8. nag-asawa na anak –> may apo ka na ba?
(Children now married -> Do you have grandchild/ren already?)

*original for 7 & 8 was: malalaki na ang anak -> may apo ka na ba? (Kids are all grown-up -> Do you have grandchild/ren already?)

When my dad died in August 1998, my lola (grandmom), my uncle and my aunts were all telling me to get married after I graduate from college, a first in the family. We were always told to study very well and work hard for our future before getting serious with any relationship. And I got shocked when almost everybody was forcing me to get hitched after graduating. No, I did not get married after graduating (in april 1999) and I was single until May 2004. So…

…for about 3 years (got engaged in 2002), people keep asking me question # 2.
…for almost 2 years, people keep asking us question # 3.
…for about 4 months, people keep asking me part of question 4. and about a month, some relatives keep asking us if I already gave birth.

And guess what’s the tune now since the holidays? You guess it right! Question # 6 is popping everywhere. And know what’s funny? Remember the game we girls used to play when we were little kids: “Nanay Tatay gusto kong tinapay… gusto kong kape.” This is my mom and the yayas version for Vera: “Mommy Daddy I want a baby brother.” LOL!!!!

This is my honest answer. I thought about this before, I want to at least enjoy my time working without worries 10 years before I retire. For that to happen and if I want another baby, I have to give birth by the end of this year. By the time I’m 50, my kids are already at least done with a four year course and can be on their own. I also don’t want to have too long generation gaps with my kids. But hamey and I haven’t really talked about this yet. And if ever he really wants another baby, then I’ll have to reconsider. Well, I actually did already, I can have another baby in the next five years. I hope we’ll have a boy this time. =)
